Nepal, No.1

In 2008 I spent some time in Nepal and India. This is one image from those travels.

When I look at an image like this, and this awful poverty, I think not so much about how terrible the standard of life is there, but what it's like here (in Canada) and how we have so much more, and yet we take it all for granted.

When I come home from a place like this, and I see how clean everything is, how organized we live, and how we have so much useless stuff -- as well as all the little things, like clean drinking water -- it makes me wonder how we can possibly let this happen.

And yet I know most are blind to it; we don't really know what it's like. Instead we spend our time arguing about things, complaining about how we don?t have enough, like we actually need more.

I'm going to step back from all that I've been doing art-wise lately, and try to focus on images like this, to educate myself and others about that the world is like, to get us thinking about it, to maybe do something about it. I don't know what though.

I'm offering prints for sale of this and images like this. I can't give money to these specific people, but I can give it to their community, and I pledge that I will donate half of anything I make to the local community of where it was taken.

I don't ever sell any prints, so I don't expect this pledge to go anywhere, but it's there all the same.
