I've been in Thailand for about five weeks.

Following a long series of hellish bus rides (including a six-hour stretch in the back of a pickup truck with a dozen other people), today I find myself in the ancient capital of Sukhothai.

I was here once before, about two-and-a-half years ago. At that time it was low season and I practically had the ruins all to myself. This time they were overrun with tourists. Even still, it was good to be back, amid these glorious temples of the ancient past.

For an hour I sat at the feet of the Buddha pictured above, meditating, contemplating, just taking in the moment of being there.

Tomorrow I head to the monkey capital of Lopburi, and after that to the deep south, where the island paradise awaits.

Next week I fly to Bangkok for six months of travel in Thailand and the surrounding countries! Though I've been neglecting DeviantArt for quite some time, this trip will put me back into action, as dA is the best place for me to display new work and offer it as prints... stay tuned for lots of great things to come!

I don’t know what it is with this site.

I get all excited and post a lot of things for a few days, then I suddenly lose interest and post nothing for weeks or months.

Let’s see... I’m going to post at least one new photo per day for the month of July.

I’m going to try.

This is just me thinking out loud. These would all be six-month trip ideas.

1. The seven little countries south of Mexico and north of Columbia, followed by sidetrip to Cuba, then south to Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina. (15)

2. Nine southernmost countries of Africa, plus Ghana, Morocco and Tunisia. (12)

3. India (mostly) plus some Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. (5)

4. Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, sidetrip to Erbil (Kurdish territory of northern Iraq), followed by eastward to Kazakhstan, Siberia (Russia) and Mongolia. (7)

The first three could happen any time of year; the fourth realistically only in summer.
